NewsOur 2024 All-Department Charrette, Urbana Eco-Futures: Envisioning Climate Resilience at the City’s Eastern Threshold, is taking place from Monday, Feb. 19, through Wednesday, Feb. 21. This is a collaborative design intensive in which students work in three large teams, each led by professionals from leading firms. The topic, site, and aims were developed by a committee of undergraduate and graduate students working with two faculty members.The professional team leaders for this year’s charrette will be Hannah Cusick and Rashad Tiam Watt, from Living Habitats; Julie Donofrio and Nate Wooten, from OLIN Labs; and Cody Axness and Samantha Shui, from site design group. The event will culminate in a presentation of outcomes on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 3:30pm, in the atrium of Temple Buell Hall.

NewsCongratulations to PhD in Landscape Architecture candidate Nubras Samayeen, who successfully defended her dissertation, “Architecture of the Land”: Louis I. Kahn’s National Assembly Complex in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and the Construction of a National Identity," at the end of last week. Nubras’s doctoral committee members include Prof. D. Fairchild Ruggles (Landscape Architecture), serving as chair, along with Prof. Pollyanna Rhee (Landscape Architecture), Prof. Cameron McCarthy (Education Policy, Organization, and Leadership), Prof. John Stallmeyer (Architecture), and Prof. Hasan-Uddin Kahn (Architecture and Historic Preservation, Roger Williams University).

NewsWe are thrilled to announce that BLA candidate Trent Maxwell has been awarded a $5,000 Paving the Future Scholarship from Unilock. The scholarship commemorates the passion, productive collaborations, and innovative spirit of Unilock founder Ed Bryant by investing in a new generation of landscape design, architecture, and construction leaders. To that end, the award recognizes students in their final year of study who are active members in their community and who demonstrate an ambition of being a thought leader in the landscaping industry of tomorrow.
