About Prof. Weiss
Bio of Andrew Weiss
Prof. Weiss is a member of the American Planning Association, the Illinois Parks and Recreation Association, and the National Parks and Recreation Association, and he is a Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI). He is also a Board Member and Secretary of the Champaign County Design and Conservation Foundation. In 2022, he was appointed to the Historic Preservation Commission of the City of Urbana, IL, by that community’s Mayor.
From 2008 to 2026, Prof. Weiss worked as a Planner at the Champaign Park District (CPD), where he has managed district-wide, $1M+ projects, interfacing with architecture/engineering consultants and collaborating with other municipal agencies, organizations, and governments. At the CPD, he has undertaken all aspects of park, trail, and indoor facility development and construction, including grant writing and administration, and he has engaged the public in consultation and authorship of comprehensive, strategic, and master plans, among other responsibilities. Before joining the CPD, Prof. Weiss worked for over a decade in the Chicago architecture community.
