Landmark study by professor Sullivan and alumnus Jiang links green spaces to reduced police violence
A pioneering study led by landscape architecture professors William Sullivan and Bin Jiang has found that greener neighborhoods are associated with significantly fewer fatal police shootings, highlighting the powerful role of urban green spaces in promoting public safety and community well-being. NewsOur 2024 All-Department Charrette, Urbana Eco-Futures: Envisioning Climate Resilience at the City’s Eastern Threshold, is taking place from Monday, Feb. 19, through Wednesday, Feb. 21. This is a collaborative design intensive in which students work in three large teams, each led by professionals from leading firms. The topic, site, and aims were developed by a committee of undergraduate and graduate students working with two faculty members.The professional team leaders for this year’s charrette will be Hannah Cusick and Rashad Tiam Watt, from Living Habitats; Julie Donofrio and Nate Wooten, from OLIN Labs; and Cody Axness and Samantha Shui, from site design group. The event will culminate in a presentation of outcomes on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 3:30pm, in the atrium of Temple Buell Hall.
