Bios of Javier González-Campaña and Noémie Lafaurie-Debany + Focus of Talk
Founded by Diana Balmori in 1990, the landscape and urban design practice Balmori Associates is recognized internationally for designing sustainable infrastructures that serve as an interface between landscape and architecture.
In this lecture, Javier González-Campaña and Noémie Lafaurie-Debany, Partners at Balmori Associates, will discuss the role of empirical research and prototyping in contemporary practices of landscape architecture, reflecting on the motivations for that shift within Balmori Associates back in the early 2000s, describing how projects such as Silvercup Studios Green Roof and GrowOnUs came about and how they have played out beyond their launch, and speculating about the role empirical experiment will play in the work of Balmori Associates and the larger field going forward.
This lecture is made possible with support from the Stanley H. White and Alumni Lecture and Development Fund in the Department of Landscape Architecture.
