Description
Doug Tallamy is the T. A. Baker Professor of Agriculture in the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology at the University of Delaware and Co-Founder of Homegrown National Park. Through his scientific research, books, blog posts, and public lectures, Tallamy makes a compelling argument for planting native species to conserve the Earth’s biodiversity, one backyard at a time.
Tallamy has authored over 100 research publications and has taught insect-related courses for more than 40 years. Chief among his research goals is to better understand the many ways insects interact with plants and how such interactions determine the diversity of animal communities. His books include Bringing Nature Home (2007); The Living Landscape, co-authored with Rick Darke (2014); Nature’s Best Hope (2020), which became a New York Times bestseller; and The Nature of Oaks (2021)–all from Timber Press. Tallamy’s awards include recognition from The Garden Writer’s Association, Audubon, The National Wildlife Federation, Western Carolina University, The Garden Club of America, and The American Horticultural Association.
This event is co-sponsored by the Department of Landscape Architecture (Stanley H. White Lecture), the Department of Entomology, and the Department of Natural Resources & Environmental Sciences (NRES).
