Fall 2025 ISoA Lecture Series #1
In this lecture, renowned architect and landscape architect Enric Batlle explores how cities can be reimagined as living systems that merge the built environment with nature. Drawing on case studies from Batlleiroig’s award-winning practice, he presents landscape-based methodologies that address climate change, ecological resilience, and community well-being.
Enric Batlle highlights strategies such as adaptive reuse of obsolete urban fabrics, multifunctional green infrastructure, and the integration of biodiversity, renewable energy, and sustainable water management. He emphasizes the importance of connecting urban spaces with natural systems rivers, ecological corridors, and surrounding landscapes while creating inclusive, people-centered environments.
Guided by the principle of “Merging City and Nature,” the lecture demonstrates how design can transform cities into healthier, cooler, and more sustainable places where life in all its forms can flourish.
