Bio of Scott Byron
After completing the BLA program at Illinois, Scott Byron worked for the Synnestvedt Landscape Company, led by the renowned designer and plantsman Ralph Synnestvedt, Jr. (BS in Landscape Operations, Illinois, 1952), whose work had a formative influence on so many practitioners. In 1983, Byron left that position in order to found his own firm, which flourished and grew into the one we know today, with more than 200 associates.
Scott Byron & Co. is well known for exceptional quality in residential and commercial projects, but also in special projects—like, rooftop situations. The firm also structures an excellent internship program for emerging landscape architects.
As an alum of Landscape Architecture at Illinois, Byron and fellow BLA alum Dick Brickman ()initiated and led development of the Visiting Practitioner Fund, a major resource in our department established by friends and admirers of Ralph Synnestvedt, Jr., to honor the excellence of his career. For more than three decades, annual revenue from that endowment has made possible a wide range of engagements with leading professionals, including short and long term visits in studios, whole semester engagements in Design Workshops, and all-Department design charrettes.
