Alumna Rachel Leibowitz Appointed to Docomomo US Board
Leibowitz is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, where she is also Co-Director of the Center for Cultural Landscape Preservation. Her prior practice in design and public history includes positions at the Historic Preservation Division of the City of Chicago Department of Planning and Development and the state historic preservation offices of Texas and Illinois. Leibowitz served for five years as the Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer and head of Preservation Services for the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
Founded in 1995, Docomomo US is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of modern architecture, landscape, and design. Through advocacy, education, and documentation, it helps demonstrate the importance of such works to American history and the cultural life of communities.
Leibowitz is the first member of the Docomomo US board with an emphasis on and expertise in landscape architecture.
