Engagement by Design: Cultivating University-Community Partnerships in the Built Environment, a one-day symposium, will bring together faculty, staff, students, community members, and community partners to explore creative frameworks for ethical, community-engaged design in architecture and landscape architecture. Through keynote talks, breakout sessions, and discussion workshops, participants will reflect on existing models of university-community partnerships and envision new directions for meaningful collaboration. The symposium is organized by the Ethical Methods of Community Engagement in Design and the Arts Research Cluster (Joseph Altshuler, Akima Brackeen, Kate Holliday, and Kelley Lemon.) and co-sponsored by the Humanities Research Institute (HRI), the Illinois School of Architecture, and the Department of Landscape Architecture.
