Bio of Julie Sajtar
Julie Sajtar (MLA 2008) is Associate Principal at Hoerr Schaudt, in Chicago, IL. Passionate about creative problem solving, her approach to landscape architecture is heavily influenced by her education in the fine arts and her deep interest in plants and planting design. Julie received an MFA in Painting from Claremont Graduate University (2000), then completed the Master of Landscape Architecture program at the University of Illinois. That background helped cultivate her vibrant aesthetic sensibility while equiping her with the skills needed to develop design solutions that are visually imaginative, practical, and sustainable. She loves projects that require both research and inventiveness, and she encourages clients to think about their goals without restraint.
Sajtar began her career in landscape architecture at Hoerr Schaudt, where she worked on significant commercial, civic, and residential projects, including the Michigan Avenue Streetscape, McGovern Centennial Gardens, and the Des Moines Botanic Garden. As an Associate at Hoerr Schaudt, she was an integral part of the streetscape design for Buckhead Atlanta and the River Oaks District, Houston Texas. After seven years with Hoerr Schaudt, Julie joined the team at Craig Bergman Landscape Design (CBLD), in Lake Forest, IL, where she served as a project manager and lead designer. She the returned to Hoerr Schaudt in spring 2017.
In addition to her professional work, Sajtar has taught planting design at the Chicago Botanic Garden’s Regenstein School, and she has presented a series of lectures on “The Art of Garden Design” and “Landscape Design Essentials” as part of the Lurie Garden’s Adult Workshops Series.
