Jeff Brauer (BLA '77) was on campus on April 11 for the dedication of UIUC's handsome new outdoor golf practice facility which Jeffrey Brauer Golfscapes designed. A major donor was alum Brent Wadsworth whose firm--Wadsworth Golf Construction--built the facility.

The Council of Educators in Landscape Education have awarded the 2015 Awards for Excellence in Research to two UIUC faculty. Professor William Sullivan wins for his career in research. Elen Deming and co-author Simon Swaffield (Lincoln University, New Zealand) win for their book, Landscape Architectural Research: Inquiry, Strategy, Design.

Co-authors Professor Elen Deming (University of Illinois) and Simon Swaffield (Lincoln University, New Zealand), were named the 2015 recipients of the Illinois Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects Honor Award for Research. The award is for their book Landscape Architecture Research: Inquiry, Strategy, Design (2011; Chinese translation 2013) and was presented at the Chapter’s Spring Celebration event in Chicago in April.

/**/The Landscape Architecture Foundation has chosen a team from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, for its 2015 Case Study Investigation (CSI) program. Professor Elen Deming, named one of LAF's 2015 Research Fellows, will work with research assistant W. Scott Douglas (a current MLA student) on three Chicago-area case studies in the Landscape Performance series. Their professional partners include SmithGroup JJR, Conservation Design Forum, and Site Design Group.
/**/Assistant Clinical Professor Jessica Henson, who divides her time between UIUC and her position as Senior Landscape Architect for the Philadelphia landscape architecture firm OLIN, is project manager for the landscape design of the new US Embassy in London and the US Consulate in Matamoros (Mexico), among other national and international projects.

Former Department Head Vincent Bellafiore passed away on May 2, 2014. Vince's leadership as head from 1985-2000, and faculty member until 2007, gave our department stability, strength, and cohesion.  Vince began his career at the design firm Sasaki, Dawson, and Demay and went on to serve the profession as President of the American Society of Landscape Architects in 1995-96. He was named an ASLA Fellow in 1989 and a Fellow of the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture in 2012.

Visiting Designer-in-ResidenceTawab Hlimi's submission of the proposed project "Carolinian Way" was one of two winning projects chosen by the David Suzuki Foundation Homegrown Design Challenge (Toronto). It was exhibited at the Urbanspace Gallery in Toronto in summer 2014.
