Design + Planning Open House

iSTEAM 2018
Sunday, June 24-Saturday, June 30, 2018
In this hands-on, week-long, summer program, high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors work together to solve environmental design challenges in architecture, landscape architecture, and urban and regional planning. Through collaborative work and campus explorations, participants will strengthen their own abilities while gaining new knowledge about professional fields of study.

Field Trip Day

During this half-day program on our campus, participating high school students learned about the many opportunities in the College of Fine and Applied Arts, and each student participated in a workshop in one of FAA's six academic units: Art + Design, Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Theatre, and Music. Participants then met with current students over lunch.  N.B. Field Trip Day is coordinated between FAA and individual high schools.

PARK(ing) Day

As an official participant in this year's PARK(ing) Day, the University of Illinois student chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) designed and presented a temporary park at the corner of Chester and Walnut Streets in Downtown Champaign.  Visitors learned about how ordinary parking spaces are transformed into sustainable, creative parklets, gardens, and more. 

Tree Dedication in Honor of Carol Emmerling-DiNovo

At this gathering, faculty/staff, students, alumni, and friends of the Department gathered to dedicate a newly planted Bur Oak (Quercus macrocarpa) in honor of Carol Emmerling-DiNovo and her three decades of service to our unit. Another tree will be dedicated in Carol's honor at the Morton Arboretum, in Lisle, IL.
