Nubras Samayeen Publishes Book Chapter
This new volume “brings together new studies and interdisciplinary research on the changing mediascapes in South Asia. Focusing on India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, it explores the transformations in the sphere of cinema, television, performing arts, visual cultures, cyber space and digital media, beyond the traumas of the partitions of 1947 and 1971.” Samayeen’s text, titled “Post-71: Photographic Ambivalences, Archives, and the Construction of a National Identity of Bangladesh,” builds on personal connections and reflections and was initially developed in a seminar in our PhD program. It also relates to her interdisciplinary dissertation research investigating “the construction of national identity through built-forms,” with a focus on “Western colonialism and modernism’s instrumentality in homogenizing history, tradition, and culture across the globe.”
