Haemee Han Exhibits at International Garden Show
Called “20 Portes” (“20 Doorways”), Jaemee Studio’s garden is composed of painted doors laid on the ground—some raised, some flat—with living plants and artificial materials creating unexpected juxtapositions and reflections. According to Han and Jaemee Studio’s architectural design director, Jaeyual Lee, the objective of the work is not to mimic or define what paradise is but rather to stimulate curiosity and raise questions among visitors about what it could be.
Before founding Jaemee Studio, Han worked at James Corner Field Operations and Hargreaves Associates, both in New York City. In those contexts, she led projects in the Americas, Europe, and Asia ranging from large-scale commercial development to small-scale public art installation.
Each year, the festival invites 25 designers from around the world to build gardens in keeping with a given theme. The 2019 event runs through November 3.
